The Smythe Park Reds are a houseleague team in the Tyke division (Ages 8-11) of the York Baseball Association. The YBA operates out of, not surprisingly, Smythe Park. The team and league are NOT affiliated with Little League. There are no try-outs. All it takes to be a Red is a completed registration form, $100 (Cdn) and a dream. ($75/player for a family of 2, $50/player for a family of three or more) Games are 7 innings or two hours long, and everyone must play at least 3 innings. All players remain in the batting order for the entire game.

Our First League Title deserved a logo
As coaches, our approach is to create an environment in which our players have a good time and learn something about baseball. Our motto is You don't have to win to have fun.
This is fortunate, because for our first four years we did very little winning.
In 1996 we had our first-ever winning season, and amassed the league's best record on the way to the West Division title. The 1997 Reds survived a rocky regular season, improved down the stretch, and reeled off a surprising 5-0 playoff run to win the league championship.
The 1998 Reds won a mediocre West Division, but boasted both the Rookie of the Year and MVP, the first individual awards ever won by Reds players.

2001 Reds discuss strategy
In 2000, The Little Red Machine was truly a machine. We had an incredible year, setting numerous club and individual records. We boasted both the league batting champion and MVP. To cap off the season, we defeated the equally dominant Pirates 5-4 in 10 innings to win our second league championship.
Since then, we've usually managed to field a competitive team, appearing in league finals and collecting first-place finishes here and there, including our fifth in 2005. 2006 marked our 3rd league championship.

2000 League Champions
In 2007 we saw a pair of firsts, as the team captured both the regular season and playoff titles in the same season, and successfully defended a championship for the first time.
2008 will be our 17th season, and our goals remain the same. Whatever our talent level, we want our players to learn the game, improve their game, and have fun playing it. Whether you're up 10 runs, or down 10 runs, there's always fun to be had. If you can't have a good time playing this game, what's the point?

This website was established Aug. 1996, which pre-dates even the Cincinnati Reds' official site. Our hit totals are modest, but we have been featured on The Fan 590 in Toronto. We also received a nice acknowledgement from 7-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens. Enjoy the site and please check back often to monitor our progress this season. We would appreciate any feedback about the site or youth baseball in general.
