1998 Roster

Andrew Bats: Right Throws:
#2

POS
Positions

Andrew's hitting has taken great strides forward in his second year with the Reds. Unleashes a ferocious swing and makes a good deal of contact, although has not yet been rewarded with consistent base hits. Big guy, but a good baserunner. Andrew made possibly the biggest defensive play of our championship playoff drive, snagging a two-out bases-loaded drive to preserve a playoff win against the Astros. Has the most power on the team.

Most Similar Major LeaguerBob Hamelin - Milwaukee Brewers

Brent Bats: Right Throws: Right
#6

POS
Positions

Young player with a lot of potential. Best assets are a powerful throwing arm (has thrown out 2 runners at the plate on cutoff throws) and excellent hustle. Still looking for his first base hit, and will have to swing more for that to happen. Draws a ton of walks, runs well. Needs time to mature and harness his temper.

Most Similar Major LeaguerCraig Grebeck - Toronto Blue Jays

Cindy Bats: Right Throws: Right
#10

POS
Positions

Despite being a rookie, Cindy is already a regular at first base, where she provides solid defense. Has good all around skills that will only get better with experience. Brings enthusiasm and a good attitude to the game. Would benefit from swinging more often.

Most Similar Major LeaguerGregg Jeffries - Philadelphia Phillies

Jay Bats: Right Throws: Left
#5

POS
Positions

Somewhat flaky left-hander (that might be redundant) in his third year with the Reds. Has made vast improvements since his early days. Now a rock solid defensive presence and a good, if occasionally inconsistent, hitter. Excellent arm, has been worked into the rotation this year. Possesses a good fastball, must work on his control. Extremely effective when he gets in a groove. Fast, good baserunner. Got a call-up to Pee Wee and wasn't overmatched. Also a fine hockey player.

Most Similar Major LeaguerDarin Erstad/Chuck Finley - California Angels

Jermain Bats: Right Throws: Right
#3

POS
Positions

Polished player, also in his third year with the team. Can play any position. Good hitter, outstanding defense. Very fast, outstanding baserunner. Has become the anchor of the pitching staff, and seems to improve every time out. This may seem like an overwhelmingly positive profile, however, Jermain does play soccer. A member of the York Pioneers rep team.

Most Similar Major LeaguerAlex Rodriguez - Seattle Mariners/Pedro Martinez - Boston Red Sox

Jordan Bats: Right Throws: Right
#9

POS
Positions

Young player, also in Rookie Ball, a hitting intensive instructional league. Has solid hitting skills, and has had some tough at bats this year. Needs to build his confidence at the plate to become a consistent hitter. Has been sound in center field, is alert, and his play has prevented runners from taking extra bases on balls hit his way. Another budding soccer player.

Most Similar Major LeaguerMarty Cordova - Minnesota Twins

Joseph Bats: Right Throws: RIght
#4

POS
Positions

A raw rookie in 1997, Joseph is one of the most improved players on the team. He has become a reliable defensive player, and has started to get in some innings in the infield. Joseph has become a much better hitter in his second year, making consistent contact, and he has driven in some key runs. Still fighting for confidence at the plate, but it's a fight he's winning. Very good attitude.

Most Similar Major LeaguerJeff Cirillo - Milwaukee Brewers

Julian Bats: Left Throws: Right
#16

POS
Positions

Fine young player, has played every position, and played them well. Good hitter, very fast, good baserunner. Hasn't looked overmatched on the mound, or behind the plate. Will just get better. Yet another soccer player (must be something in the water). Already a member of the York Pioneers rep squad.

Most Similar Major LeaguerOmar Vizquel - Cleveland Indians

Justin Bats: Right Throws: Right
#1

POS
Positions

Justin's defense has become much better in his sophomore year. Glove is solid, and his arm is much improved. Still a raw hitter, but he knows how to hit. It's just a matter of taking a good approach to the plate more consistently. Strong, should hit with some power. Should be a staple in the infield of the future.

Most Similar Major LeaguerSean Berry - Houston Astros

Kevin Bats: Right Throws: Right
#7

POS
Positions

Fine player, whose fundamentals have come a long way since opening day. Solid hitter, good baserunner. Could stand to be more aggressive at the plate. Has pitched a few innings, and while his stuff isn't overpowering, his control has been pretty good. Should carry a good share of the pitching burden in '99.

Most Similar Major LeaguerJay Bell - Arizona Diamondbacks

Kyle Bats: Right Throws: Right
#

POS
Positions

Has become a very good player. Good defense, arm is strong enough to play third. Improved baserunner. Impressive hitter, has developed an excellent approach at the plate. Alert hitter, ready for every pitch, and has a good swing. Hits consistently and with some pop.

Most Similar Major LeaguerJeff Kent - San Francisco Giants

Mike Bats: Right Throws: Right
#11

POS
Positions

Rookie with good fundamental skills. A solid fielder, with a good arm, Mike is alert and always in good position to make a play. Good eye at the plate, but still takes his cuts and makes pretty good contact. Good attitude, willing to learn, likely a future infielder.

Most Similar Major LeaguerChad Curtis - New York Yankees

Mike Bats: Right Throws: Right
#12

POS
Positions

Versatile rookie who can play several positions. Has shown big improvement both at catcher and third. Mike's a good looking hitter, who'll take a walk, but will also swing the bat pretty freely. Has shown good power to the opposite field. Good arm, will share the "catcher of the future" duties with Julian.

Most Similar Major LeaguerJim Leyritz - San Diego Padres

Mike Bats: Right Throws: Right
#14

POS
Positions

In his second year with the team, Mike's improved every aspect of his game. Solid catcher with a very good arm, which he has also taken to the mound. A hard throwing righty, Mike's only obstacle is his consistency. He's very tough to hit when he's on, but has a tendency to struggle with his control. Has come a long way as a hitter. Intense and focussed at the plate, Mike has started to drive the ball with authority.

Most Similar Major LeaguerJason Kendall - Pittsburgh Pirates/Pat Hentgen - Toronto Blue Jays

Mike Bats: Right Throws: Right
#17

POS
Positions

Rookie brought raw skills to spring training, but has become a polished player in a hurry. Decent command of the strike zone, draws a lot of walks, also a good hitter. Doesn't have tons of power, but is Ffast, so any ground ball he pulls is a base hit. Has stolen a truckload of bases. Good fielder, covers a lot of ground in the outfield and has looked good at second, too.
