1996 Roster

Alex Bats: Right Throws: Right
#14

POS
Positions

Was cut from the all-star team for immaturity. Exactly how immature can an 11-year-old be? A tenacious pitcher, doesn't have overwhelming stuff, but wins anyway. Good hitter, spectacular base running instincts. Uncanny ability to steal home, just doesn't understand that it's dangerous and less-than sportsmanlike when leading by 10 runs. Will go to Pee-Wee in 1997.

Chris Bats: Right Throws: Right
#15

POS
Positions

The elder Turjinica, has been a great backup at catcher, learning a lot in a short time. Good hitter, possibly the fastest player on the team, but don't tell Mike or Alex, always hussles. Promoted to Pee-Wee.

Batted - .382

David Bats: Right Throws: Right
#10

POS
Positions

10-year-old rookie with a lot of raw talent. Good fielder and hitter, just needs to keep playing. Should be a star in '97.

Batted - .111

Hawaz Bats: Right Throws: Right
12#

POS
Positions

Nickname should be "Little Daddy." He's built like Cecil Fielder, runs like him and now is starting to hit like him, he's just shorter. Has deceiving velocity for his size and might pitch next year. Always cheerful, is very patient at the plate and often draws walks.

Batted - .214

Ian Bats: Right Throws: Right
#8

POS
Positions

Wonderful player. Diminutive second baseman with good defense and range, will dive for anything. Good hitter, leads off because of small strike zone and ability to hit and drive almost anything. In the dictionary next to "Scrappy" there's this picture... Great attitude. Will move on to Pee-Wee.

Batted - .500

James Bats: Left Throws: Left
#9

POS
Positions

11-year-old going on 23. At 5'4" and 140 lbs, one of the largest players in league. Also one of the most talented. Our lone player on the Rep team, James is the ideal first baseman: great glove, height, reach, left-handed, a ton of power, very little speed. The first Red to hit a home run out of the park. Will move up to Pee-Wee to the relief of opposing coaches everywhere.

Batted - .553

Jay Bats: Right Throws: Left
#6

POS
Positions

9-year-old with a cannon for a left arm. Unfortunately he throws at only one speed: Maximum. This becomes a hazard for infielders six feet away who require only a soft toss. A bit flaky (Aren't all lefties?) Should pitch in the future. Walked or was plunked so many times that he was creditted with only 9 at-bats.

Jeff Bats: Left Throws: Right
#3

POS
Positions

Younger half of the Turjinica brothers. A strong left-handed hitter, and good fielder if he remembers that there is a baseball game in progress. A building block for the '97 Reds.

Batted - .457

Jermain Bats: Right Throws: Right
#16

POS
Positions

The most talented 8-year-old I've ever seen. Could've pitched this year, but with four pitchers already, we didn't want to rush him. Has played very well in the infield and especially at third base. Hitting has come a long way. Will return in '97 and '98.

Batted - .189

Jon Bats: Left Throws: Right
#2

POS
Positions

9-year-old whose fielding has improved vastly since Opening Day. Not nearly aggressive enough as a hitter, but draws a lot of walks because of this. Didn't collect a hit this season, but was on base often.

Mike Bats: Right Throws: Right
#11

POS
Positions

A top player in '96, and he'll be back next year. Always a good fielder, has developed his pitching and hitting this season. After a humiliating strikeout at the hands of one of our weaker players from last year, Mike seemed to assert himself and started giving outfielders whiplash, as he hammered the ball all over the field. Should be an All-star next year.

Batted - .474

Mike Bats: Left Throws: Right
#7

POS
Positions

Soccer playing backstop who might be the best all-round player in the league. Does everything well, hits, runs, can throw out runners from his knees. Even frames pitches. Good pitcher. No attitude, although we wish he'd stop wrestling with Alex. Promoted to Pee-Wee.

Batted - .677

Nick Bats: Right Throws: Right
#1

POS
Positions

Rookie outfielder with good fielding skills. Potential as a hitter, but needs more experience. Good attitude, actually listens to coaches. Will return next season.

Batted - .040

Scott Bats: Right Throws: Right
#17

POS
Positions

A fine player. Very good defensively. Hitting ability is sporadic, but there and constantly improving. Listens to coaches and has a good attitude. Will go to Pee-Wee next year.

Batted - .286

Taras Bats: Right Throws: Right
#5

POS
Positions

Rookie who has improved all aspects of his game this year. Good alertness in the field. Will look to get first hit in '97.

Tobias Bats: Left Throws: Right
#4

POS
Positions

Solid defensive player with a very good arm. Left-handed singles hitter with good speed. Often bats 2nd. Very intelligent. Moved to Washington D.C. during the playoffs. Will hopefully keep playing.

Batted - .273
