2004 Roster

Alexia Bats: Right Throws: Right
#3

POS
Positions

Alexia was awarded the Reds inaugural Silver Slugger award for her improved hitting in 2003. She was a huge part of the offense last season, banging out 20 hits. Drives the ball very well. Good speed on the bases, which is fortunate, because she still refuses to slide. A steady defender, Alexia moved from her customary spot at second base to play short, catcher, first and even logged a few innings on the mound. Will move to PeeWee in 2005.

Arun Bats: Right Throws: Right
#29

POS
Positions

Many Reds baserunners took the A-Train in 2004, as Arun used his considerable power to send outfielders scurrying, and knock in a huge number of runs. Arun boasts a solid glove and strong arm at third base. Soft-spoken and one of the nicest players we've had on the team, Arun will take his big bat to PeeWee in 2005. Winner of the 2004 Coaches Choice Award

Most Similar Major LeaguerScott Rolen - St. Louis Cardinals
AKA - "The A-Train"
Batted - .462 (30-65)

Bryan Bats: Both Throws: Right
#23

POS
Positions

Bryan didn't feel comfortable batting left-handed to start the year, and looked very awkward, so he switched to batting righty, and used our extended schedule to shatter the team record for hits in a season. Has good power and speed, and can play any position on the diamond, though he needs to work on his consistency and temperament when pitching. Bryan was a member of the York Pioneers All-stars. Won the Silver Slugger award for his hitting exploits. Was the runner-up for the league batting title. Will move to Peewee in 2005.

Most Similar Major LeaguerLance Berkman - Houston Astros
AKA - "The Anchorman"
Batted - .774 (48-62)

Isaac Bats: Right Throws: Right
#31

POS
Positions

New to the game, Isaac showed a lot of natural ability, and was quickly taking a regular turn in the infield. A strong right-handed hitter, Isaac pummeled some long line drives to the fence in right field. One of the more original wits on the team, Isaac had some highly entertaining takes on the game of baseball and his teammates in general. Also had some rather eclectic sock choices when he couldn't locate his uniform socks. Will move to PeeWee in 2005.

Most Similar Major LeaguerRichie Sexson - Seattle Mariners
AKA - "The Iceman
Batted - .650 (13-20)

Joel Bats: Right Throws: Right
#7

POS
Positions

After a year off, Joel made his triumphant return to the Reds in 2004. He improved every facet of his game from his underage rookie year. Joel has a very strong arm, and is an eager hitter, to the point that he will routinely swing a pitch a foot over his head. Hits the ball with authority when he connects, and will develop into a top hitter. Joel showed a great deal more maturity in his second go-around with the Reds, and should have a big year in 2005.

Kevin Bats: Right Throws: Right
#7

POS
Positions

A raw rookie, Kevin possesses a VERY strong arm, possibly the best in the league. He used it to pitch a number of quality innings, and when he was on, he was absolutely lights-out. At other times, he had trouble hitting the backstop. Kevin has a solid swing, and got better at meeting the ball as the season went on. Fast runner on the bases and complete goof on the bench. If he continues to practice, Kevin has the makings of an outstanding pitcher. Will move to PeeWee in 2005.

Marcus Bats: Right Throws: Right
#5

POS
Positions

Marcus did just about everything you can ask for as a Rookie Red. Has very solid hands, and plays a mean shortstop, as he quickly became our starter at the position, a rarity for a first-year player. At the plate, Marcus likes the letter-high fastball, and despite his diminutive size, sent balls all over the outfield, hitting an impressive .607. Marcus uses his intelligence on the basepaths, and rarely makes the same mistake twice. Outstanding attitude, Marcus' only weakness is that he is a Yankees fan - that's his Dad's fault. We have a couple of years to convert him. Just the 2nd Red to win the Rookie of the Year award.

Most Similar Major LeaguerMiguel Tejada - Baltimore Orioles
AKA - "Little Mac"
Batted - .607 (34-56)

Meaghan Bats: Right Throws: Right
#1

POS
Positions

Rookie of the Year in 2003 with the Yankees, Meaghan does just about everything well on a baseball field. A strong hitter, though early in the count she'll swing at just about anything. This helps her establish the pitcher's timing and turns her into a deadly 2-strike hitter. Very quick on the bases, Meaghan is quickly turning into an excellent catcher. Has the arm to be a pitcher, though she's not enthusiastic about the idea. Yet. Intelligent player, and probably the only bilingual catcher in the league, Meaghan is a member of the York Pioneers all-star team.

Nicholas Bats: Right Throws: Right
#33

POS
Positions

Nick improved steadily in his second season with the Reds. Fast developing into a strong right-handed hitter, Nicholas boasts impressive power, and is becoming a good contact hitter as well. Enjoyed a 3-hit game. Defensively, Nick's arm is strong, but sometimes inconsistent. His glove has improved a great deal, and he will probably start to see significant time at first base in 2005.

Shea Hillenbrand - Toronto Blue Jays
AKA - "The Nature Boy"
Batted - .615 (8-13)

Reema Bats: Right Throws: Right
#15

POS
Positions

We met Reema, the younger sister of three former Reds, at a practice midway through the season, where she expressed a desire to start playing. 3 days later, she was in a Reds uniform. Reema showed great improvement in her second year with the Reds, starting to take a regular turn in the infield. Picked up her nickname "The Hammer" because that's exactly what she does to the baseball when she catches it with her powerful swing. Reema has tremendous speed and is a potent weapon when she gets on base. With a strong arm, Reema will get a chance to pitch and catch in 2005.

Sander Bats: Right Throws: Right
#25

POS
Positions

An ex-Met, Sander showed up to a Reds practice by accident prior to last season, so when the Mets were folded, we jumped at the chance to draft him. An intelligent, well-rounded player, Sander became our best pitcher down the stretch in 2004. A good contact hitter with power to right field, Sander become one of just 6 Reds to top the .700 mark in batting. A quick, heads-up baserunner. A member of the York Pioneers, Sander's versatility on defense earned him the Reds Gold Glove Award

Samson Bats: Right Throws: Right
#9

POS
Positions

A rookie in 2004, no Red brought more effort or hustle to the park than Samson. Takes instruction very well, and it showed quickly, as Samson's on-field performance improved steadily from Opening Day. Samson's hitting came around by the end of the season, and he enjoyed some success in the playoffs that is not reflected in his batting average. Hits the ball with a lot of authority. Samson's defensive skills also improved a great deal, and he boasts a strong arm that's only going to get better.

Stephan Bats: Right Throws: Right
#17

POS
Positions

Stephan was enjoying a hot streak at the plate, when a skateboarding accident broke his arm and ended his season. One of our more experienced catchers, Stephan still made it out to many games, acting as scorekeeper and first base coach, and showing a tremendous amount of team spirit. A quick left-handed batter, with good skills on the bases, Stephan very much wanted to return to the lineup for the playoffs, and had to be told firmly by his doctor that it just wasn't going to happen. We look forward to seeing Stephan fully healed and continuing to play well in Peewee in 2005.

Tevon Bats: Right Throws: Right
#11

POS
Positions

There's fast, and then there's Tevon fast. This rookie has explosive speed, and started to learn how to put it into a baseball uniform. Stole a load of bases, and we haven't yet seen the catcher that can throw him out. Has a nice compact swing from the right side, and started to make decent contact prior to going away for the summer. He'll be back with the Reds and will continue to improve in 2005.

Most Similar Major LeaguerCarl Crawford - Tampa Bay Devil Rays
AKA - "The Flash"

Victoria Bats: Right Throws: Right
#21

POS
Positions

Late in the summer, with injuries and vacations taking a serious toll on the Reds roster, a call was placed to this rookie-baller for some call up help. Victoria had been on the field for about 5 minutes when the coaching staff decided that she'd be a Red for the forseeable future. If there's a more eager player than Victoria in the league, we haven't met them. Plays a great second base, where she shows off a lot of range. Terrific baserunner already. With a very small strikezone, Victoria drew a boatload of walks. She'll get her first hit, and quite a few more, in 2005.
