2003 Roster

Alexia Bats: Right Throws: Right
#3

POS
Positions

Alexia picked up her first career base hit in the 2002 playoffs. She picked up right where she left off, hammering opposition pitching all season. Technically, Alexia is perhaps the soundest hitter on the team, as she practices the same stance and routine during every at-bat. Very nearly killed her coach in the batting cage. Alexia is quick on the base paths and moved into a regular job at second base. Was impressive enough to earn a few call-ups to the York Pioneers select team. Alexia will be a big part of the Reds offense in 2004. She was awarded the Reds inaugural Silver Slugger award for her improved hitting.

Andrew Bats: Left Throws: Right
#17

POS
Positions

Andrew's pitching was a prime reason for the Reds record setting 2003. He has a powerful arm, and he buzzed the strikezone with it all season long. Andrew's sure hands also make him a solid contributor at first base and shortstop. At the plate, Andrew boasts a lot of power, and once he can marry that ability with more consistent contact, he'll be a frightening offensive force. Andrew came out of his shell quite a bit this year and took a leadership role on the team. Has a great attitude and will be a great addition to any PeeWee team that drafts him this year. A member of the York Pioneers All-stars.

Curt Schilling - Boston Red Sox
AKA - "Boom Boom" "Big Train"
Batted - .324 (11-34)

Arun Bats: Right Throws: Right
#15

POS
Positions

Arun became one of our top hitting rookies in 2003. A strong right-handed hitter, Arun began to lace hard line drives toward the end of the season. Though new to baseball, Arun's fundamentals improved very quickly, and he began to see significant time in the infield. Has a very strong arm, and will likely see a lot of time at third base in 2004. Has experimented with pitching and may get a chance to do more of that this season as well.

Most Similar Major LeaguerMatthew LeCroy - Minnesota Twins

Batted - .226 (7-31)

Bryan Bats: Left Throws: Right
#6

POS
Positions

Bryan had one of the most impressive seasons of any 10-year-old in Reds history. A slashing left-handed hitter, Bryan added some power to his game this season, smacking doubles and triples all over the park. He also became the first Red in 3 years to homer, swatting a big fly against the Yankees. Defensively, Bryan plays all over the field, but was most valuable as our #1 catcher last season. Very fast and aggressive on the bases, Bryan racks up stolen bases and is a good bet to score whenever he's on base. His pitching improved throughout the season, and he should be a big part of the rotation in 2004. A member of the York Pioneers All-stars.

Devlin Bats: Right Throws: Right
#11

POS
Positions

None of us here at Reds HQ claim to be experts in physics or the laws of the universe in general. That said, we're confident we've discovered a rare form of magnetism that exists between baseballs and certain individuals. Devlin is one of those individuals. He had an uncanny knack of being hit with the ball and thus led the league in HBPs, probably by quite a wide margin. It didn't matter the situation, bases loaded, bases empty, new pitcher, experienced pitcher, whatever the case, the odds of Devlin getting nicked, plunked or downright beaned were quite good. To Devlin's credit, he didn't shy away from hitting, and began to smack the ball back by the end of the season. A hard worker who improved every aspect of his game. Will move to PeeWee in 2004.

Most Similar Major LeaguerReed Johnson - Toronto Blue Jays
AKA - "Dangerous"

Jonathon Bats: Right Throws: Right
#7

POS
Positions

John improved tremendously over his 3 seasons with the Reds, becoming a dangerous hitter and a terrific defensive third baseman with a powerful arm. John was usually the first Red to practice and worked tirelessly with his very supportive Dad. A joker and something of a flake, Jonathon developed into a lethal right-handed hitter, smoking line drives all over the park. Stole home on his last play with the Reds, in the bottom of the seventh inning, with two outs, to beat the Dodgers 5-4 in our final playoff game. A member of the York Pioneers All-stars. Won the 2004 Coaches Choice Award.

Most Similar Major LeaguerMike Lowell - Florida Marlins
Batted - .559 (19-34)

Kyle Bats: Right Throws: Right
#8

POS
Positions

A hustling leadoff man, Kyle became just the 8th Red in team history to clear the .600 plateau. Reached base all the time and with speed to burn, Kyle piled up the runs. As a pitcher, Kyle had the uncanny ability to work his way into and then right out of tough jams. Has a great attitude, but does tend to put a little too much pressure on himself. Kyle distinguished himself at several different positions, and was thus named the Reds first ever Gold Glove winner. Also a member of the York Pioneers All-stars. Will move to PeeWee in 2004.

Mitch Bats: Right Throws: Left
#12

POS
Positions

A member of the Reds for 4 seasons, Mitch saved his best for last. A terrific natural athlete, Mitch led the Reds pitching staff in 2003, adding an improved fastball to unnatural control. Though not the league's biggest player, Mitch continued to pound opposing pitching, and won the legaue Batting Championship with a lofty .750 average. Became an outstanding catcher as well. Mitch has a great attitude, doing everything asked of him with a smile. He will be sorely missed, and we wish him luck in PeeWee in 2004.

Nicholas Bats: Right Throws: Right
#18

POS
Positions

A rookie, Nicholas showed a great deal of promise, improving every element of his game. A graduate of rookie ball, Nicholas is a capable right-handed hitter who made a great deal of contact for a young player in his first year. Big for his age, Nicholas will likely hit for considerable power. Defensively, Nicholas developed to the point where he began to play some innings in the infield. Has a strong arm, and should get a shot at pitching sometime this season. Quick on the bases, though he occasionally suffers some indecisiveness on the basepaths. Nicholas has a bright future ahead of him.

Orlando Hudson - Toronto Blue Jays
Batted - .143 (5-35)

Ryan Bats: Right Throws: Right
#5

POS
Positions

Another player fresh out of Rookie Ball, Ryan showed his hitting prowess by banging out a pair of hits in his very first game, an 18-0 drubbing of the Cardinals. Initially, Ryan had some trouble keeping his focus, but through practice he improved immensely, and became a dependable fielder, cutting off base hits quickly and getting them back to infield. Ryan's plate discipline also came a long way, and he became a good deal more selective at the plate, learning to take walks that weren't a part of the Rookie Ball game.

Reema Bats: Right Throws: Right
#4

POS
Positions

We met Reema, the younger sister of three former Reds, at a practice midway through the season, where she expressed a desire to start playing. 3 days later, she was in a Reds uniform. Brings a ton of enthusiasm to practices and games, and has some good basic skills. She has a strong arm, though she hasn't figured out just how strong yet, a rapidly improving glove, and she can fly on the basepaths. Made her first batting contact after just a few games. Will look for her first official base hit in 2004. Expect big things from Reema over the next couple of seasons.

Sander Bats: Right Throws: Right
#10

POS
Positions

An ex-Met, Sander showed up to a Reds practice by accident prior to last season, so when the Mets were folded, we jumped at the chance to draft him. An intelligent, well-rounded player, Sander did a little bit of everything in 2003. Can play anywhere in the infield, and is a very reliable first baseman. We also tapped Sander to pitch, and he did quite well, providing several quality innings. He should be a big part of the pitching picture in 2004. Sander is a strong hitter who belts hard line drives, and once on base he's a quick, heads-up baserunner. Played a handful of games for the York Pioneers

Sean Bats: Right Throws: Right
#9

POS
Positions

Sean made some big strides as a hitter in 2003. His batting average doesn't reflect a number of big playoff hits, including a game-winning double, which certainly would have sent his average over .400. Sean is very strong and sent most of those hits well out of the infield for extra bases. Though he had the arm to pitch and play a great deal more infield than he did, Sean preferred to play center field, where he used his alertness and speed to provide solid up-the-middle defense. Threw out more than a few runners bidding for extra bases. Due to move to PeeWee in 2004.

Tyrell Bats: Right Throws: Right
#16

POS
Positions

Easily the strongest player in the league. Tyrell's power is just spooky. Doesn't get cheated on his swing, and when he connects, he absolutely thrashes the baseball and sends outfielders scurrying. Hiked his batting average more than .300 points in his second season with the Reds. Tyrell's arm is also unnaturally strong, and he used it to pitch a number of impressive innings for us down the stretch. When his control is on, he's practically unhittable. Does engage in some adventurous baserunning sometimes. Will terrorize pitchers in PeeWee in 2004.
